  • New Goals: Phase 2

Finally, I'm breaking the suspense! New Goals: Phase 2.

My big running goal has always been to run a half marathon, and with that under my belt I was feeling a bit lost. I don't think I'm cut out for a full marathon, and I know I can improve my half time, but I want something different. Hence, the new goal:

    A DUATHLON

Yes. A duathlon. I've carefully planned out my exercising life until October, and here's what it looks like. Each race is in there for a reason, and most have special significance, as explained below.

April: Tax Trot 10k; it will be my third year running this event, and although it's a pretty small race, I've always had a ton of fun. My first year I ran it in 1:11:XX and last year it was 1:03:XX, so I'm hoping to PR again. Also, this race was my first 10k ever. Awwwww.

May: Mackinaw Memorial Bridge Race; this event is just plain awesome. It will also be my third year running it, with progressively better times, and my sister and stepmom run it with me, so we make a whole family weekend out of it. Also, it was while I was running this event that Hubby asked my Dad if he could ask me to marry him. Awwwww, again.

June: Flirt with Dirt 10k Trail Race; I've never done this race, and never done a trail race (aside from running Cross Country in High School were every race was a trail race). I think it sounds fun, so I'm totally doing it.

July: Greatest Fourth in the North 5k and Muddy Buddy; the GFITN 5k is in my hometown, shoddily organized, but a tradition that I'm not willing to give up; Muddy Buddy (click the link above, it's seriously the most fun event I've ever seen) is something new for me, and something that will help me kick off duathlon training. My buddy? Hubby. Which means we'll get to train for something together this summer! Awwwwww, for the third time.

August: THE MAIN EVENT; Bikesport Grosse Ile Duathlon; This is what it's all about. I'm dusting off my bike, airing up the tires and training to do this sucker all summer. It's a 4 mile run, 15 mile bike and another 4 mile run. Honestly, I couldn't be more pumped for this!!!

    September: No events planned...yet.

October: Brooksie Way Half Marathon; since I'll hopefully already be in killer shape at this point, I think it will be high time to attempt my second half marathon. Also, this one is at my alma mater, and in the fall. Two things that I L.O.V.E.

So there you have it. New Goals: Phase 2. Am I crazy?

Not crazy! I think it's an awesome plan. My chiropractor did the muddy buddy last year, that looks so fun! I wonder if my husband would want to do it with me...

How fun!! Yeah GFITN is crappily organized but I can walk to the start/finish line so why not? I'm going to 10k it this year though! And a Dualathon is AWESOME!! I totally wish I knew how to ride a bike :(
